Description
Yellow-rumped Warbler - Berry or Mosquito by Debra Martz
A visit to Paradise Pond in Port Aransas, Texas on January 7th was amazing in the sheer numbers of these warblers. And it was a good thing as the mosquitoes were thick. Though this one stopped for a second, with berries just below it (which they eat in the their wintering areas), it was quickly off to grab those pesky mosquitoes from mid air. I was thankful for that...it cut down a little bit on the amount of swatting I had to do to keep them from biting me!
And a quote from allaboutbirds.org "They're often perched on the outer limbs of trees and are very conspicuous as they fly out after insects, often making long, aerobatic pursuits and flashing their yellow rumps and white patches in the tail. But the easiest time to see Yellow-rumped Warblers is probably on migration, when hordes of Yellow-rumped Warblers sweep down the continent."
