Description
Sharp Backyard Visitor by Debra Martz Both Sharp-Shinned and Cooper's Hawks are known to visit backyard feeders. Of course, that always worries me when one shows up as I prefer my feathered friends in my yard to Not be their prey. This Sharp-shinned has been a regular lately and is very patient spending up to an hour here. But this was the first time I had seen it hang out on the back of one of my chairs; it's usually in a tree or on the fence. While the Cooper's hawk is a year-round bird for my area of northern Oklahoma, the Sharp-shinned is only a winter visitor...it should soon move on to its breeding grounds.
