One Last Sharp Look Before Departure by Debra Martz Both Sharp-Shinned and Cooper's Hawks are known to visit backyard feeders. Of course, that always worries me when one shows up as I prefer my feathered friends in my yard to not be their prey. This Sharp-shinned has been a regular lately and is very patient spending up to an hour here. Today it spent most of its time on the back of one of my chairs. Finally, it gave up but stopped on the fence for a last look around and then departed. While the Cooper's hawk is a year-round bird for my area of northern Oklahoma, the Sharp-shinned is only a winter visitor...it should soon move on to its breeding grounds.
