Return Flight of the American Avocets by Debra Martz This flock of Avocets had just flown by the spillway and I thought they were going out to the lake. BUT, they circled and came back to the upper tier of the spillway giving the view of their beautiful backside patterns. This is their winter plumage...spring and summer their head and neck are a rufous/rusty color. Captured at the Great Salt Plains State Park in Northern Oklahoma.
