Description
Painted Bunting Singing Its Song by Debra Martz Bird watching can be rather slow when June rolls around but I still try and get out at least once a week to my favorite spots. Most of those favorites are in one coastal town, Port Aransas, TX. There are several different areas with boardwalks in different habitats. This was a particularly slow day and just as I had decided to pack it away there appeared this beautiful Painted Bunting perched on top of a small tree singing out its heart. What a way to end a day!!
(From allaboutbirds.com: "With their vivid fusion of blue, green, yellow, and red, male Painted Buntings seem to have flown straight out of a child's coloring book. Females and immatures are a distinctive bright green with a pale eyering. These fairly common finches breed in the coastal Southeast and in the south-central US, where they often come to feeders. They are often caught and sold illegally as cage birds, particularly in Mexico and the Caribbean, a practice that puts pressure on their breeding populations.") Thanks for looking!
