Description
Groove-billed Ani by Debra Martz This was a first for me to see this bird and had just about given up after several days of hiking around Falcon State Park, Texas....and then there it was!!! It's an odd looking black bird with a long tail and a large, curved beak, the Groove-billed Ani is a tropical species that reaches the United States only in southern Texas. Its membership in the cuckoo family is revealed by its two-toes-forward, two-toes-back foot arrangement.
Scientificname: Crotophaga sulcirostris
