Description
Sandhill Cranes Bronze - Bosque del Apache - New Mexico by Debra Martz We arrived early morning on our second day at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. I went to the office to see what birds had been reported the previous day and to report my sightings only to find the office would be closed all day. At least we already had a map of the refuge. Before departing to make the 12 mile driving loop with its multiple pullouts and observation decks, I took a walk around the paths nearby. The grounds are beautifully maintained and a number of birds were already out and about and feeding. I spotted this beautiful bronze of the Sandhill Cranes and thought how very appropriate for this refuge, as it is best known for the fall/winter migration of more than 15,000 cranes each year. I was visiting in August, as the refuge was along our route to Utah from Texas. It is on my "bucket list" to visit during the fall migration...hopefully in my near future.
