Description
American Kestrel at Bosque del Apache New Mexico by Debra Martz You just never know where you might "get" your bird! I was just returning to the truck after checking in at the Bosque del Apache visitors center, when, I saw a shadow. I then looked up to see this beautiful male that had landed and was moving about on the upper tree limbs.
The slate blue wings distinguish this as the American Kestrel male. It is considered a "dainty" falcon having 2 distinct facial stripes. It is the most common Falcon of North America. Scientific name: Falco Sparverius
