Description
Trails Into The Gorge Wild Rivers New Mexico by Debra Martz The trails from the rim to the river are many series of switchbacks. My preferred way down is via the Big Arsenic trail which has a cold running spring about 3/4 of the way. Continuing on down will take you to the River Trail along the Rio Grande. If you take that trail northward to where large boulders lie, climbing around on those you will find some petroglyphs. After a while, we turn around, backtrack a distance and then continue on south until arriving at the Little Arsenic trail. We use that trail to climb back up to the rim. We learned the first time that we should have parked our vehicle there and hiked the 1 mile to the Big Arsenic trailhead instead of having that mile to do once out of the gorge!

Wonderful work. Debra: Sorry about your sting. Bees can be frightening. I've had one land on my face, crawl under my glasses and across my eyelid. Fortunately, no sting.
Debra Martz replied:
Thank you, Robert! Glad you were more fortunate and didn't get a sting on the eyelid like I did!
