Description
Leather Pool Yellowstone Wyoming by Debra Martz This thermal pool is located along the Fountain Paint Pot boardwalk. Leather Pool underwent dramatic changes after the Hebgen lake earthquake of 1959. Prior to the earthquake, it was a warm (143 F/62 C) pool that supported leather-like brown bacteria. After the earthquake, water temperatures rose to boiling and killed the microorganisms. The bubbling, boiling water is noticeable in several places, one area just above the dead branch.
