Old Bedlam at Fort Laramie by Debra Martz
.........................
This graceful old structure was built in 1849 and is said to be the oldest standing building in Wyoming. It is located along one side the the parade grounds referred to as Officers' Row. Old Bedlam was the nickname given to it because of boisterous sounds that were supposedly heard by bachelor officers

Fort Laramie National Historic Site in Wyoming was originally established as a fur trading post in 1834 and named Fort Williams and several years later renamed Fort John. In 1849 it was purchased by the U.S. Army and became Fort Laramie at that time. The fort was decommissioned in 1890.
