Description
Old Army Bridge over Platte River in Wyoming by Debra Martz This is vantage point of the retired bridge upon leaving Fort Laramie National Historic Site and returning to US Hwy 26. It is parallel to the newer bridge for modern day traffic. The old bridge was erected in 1875 replacing ferry service which was often hazardous. The bridge became the vital link between Cheyenne, Fort Laramie and the military outposts, Indian Agencies and the Gold Fields of the Black Hills Dakota region.
