Description
Coral Bean Pods and Red Seeds Digital Art Photography by Debra Martz This Coral Bean plant is an oddity. When it flowers it has beautiful long sweeping red tubular blooms. The blooms and the young green leaves are edible. But when those pods develop, and then break open, they dispense vibrant red seeds that are extremely poisonous! They grow in the wild here in south Texas and some people plant them in their yards...they are a great attractor for hummingbirds. But I would be wary of that if you have children or pets as the vibrant scarlet seeds might be attractive to them, also. I read that in Mexico the seeds are used to poison rats, dogs and fish!
I've added a digital painting effect and digital framing to my original photograph.
