Trout Lake - Rio Arriba County New Mexico by Debra Martz
It was no easy task, or should I say drive, to reach this beautiful lake in the mountains of New Mexico. Just south of Cebolla, NM we turned east onto Forest Road 125 to find trout lakes as described to us by a local as a great place of peace and quiet along with good fishing. Also, we were told we should only make the trek if we had a 4-wheel drive, which we did. No wonder it is quiet!! While the first 1/4 of a mile was on a nice gravel road that all changed very quickly! The ruts and potholes became deeper and sometimes the drive around a narrow curve was just a bit frightening as you hoped not to meet any other vehicle due to high drop-offs! We considered turning around at the next possible place but in the end, we forged ahead and finally arrived at this beautiful lake about an hour later.
