Red Maple Leaf and Seed Pods by Debra Martz On a recent visit to Pennsylvania I was at first disappointed because the first day started with rain. But when it slowed to a light mist, I went outside to check out the fall foliage at my mother and sister-in-laws' house. I found myself standing underneath the canopy of the beautiful Red Maple and that is when I noticed it still had seed pods...or what some refer to as whirligigs or helicopters because of the way they move through the air when they fall from the tree.
