Description
As you can see, hiking the dunes is one of the popular activities here. Great Sand Dunes are the tallest sand dunes in North America, with the legendary Star Dune towering at 755 feet. Visitors can climb and explore any part of the 30 square mile dunefield, but in summer it’s recommended to do so in the early mornings or evenings to avoid high surface temperatures. And I can attest to that, first arriving around noon. Didn't make it too far, so headed out early the next morning to hike the dunes. Also, not as easy at it might seem and takes longer than expected...for me anyways.

Wow...what an awesome capture, Debra! Including the people in the shot is brilliant--without them I don't think I would've had a real sense of scale. Excellent work!! L/F
