Camouflaged Western Diamondback Rattlesnake by Debra Martz I can't think of anything that could get me moving faster than this camouflaged rattlesnake did. My husband and I were getting close to the end of a 6 mile hike when this Texas Diamond-back, hidden in the grasses on the edge of the trail, RATTLED extremely loud! I knew that sound immediatley and knew it was to my lefthand side. In a split second, I hate to admit, I screamed and bolted forward as fast as my feet would carry me!! After that adrenaline rush, I walked back slowly to see if it was still there. It was, and the forked-tongue and it being in that coiled, ready to strike position, told me not to push the limits. Geez, bird watching is supposed to be a pleasant time out in nature! It was April afterall, so like birds claiming their breeding territory, I could only think this Western Diamondback Rattlesnake was doing the same. And yes, they are venomous so give them their space! I was so very thankful that it...
My favorite moments are times spent outdoors. I love bird watching, going on hikes and appreciating nature that is all around us. Therefore, much of my photography involves nature and wildlife. I, also, enjoy traveling and have galleries with images from several states in the USA and a few European countries. Any image that might have the Fine Art America watermark will NOT print on the purchased product. Thank you for visiting my online gallery! Oh my gosh, I've done the same - scream and run - but I've never been brave enough to go back. This is a great shot, perfectly composed, fantastic DOF. It's almost like this fellow posed specially for you.
Debra Martz replied:
Some hikers came from a different trail that intersected this one a bit later...they asked if we knew where the scream came from...so it was a loud one! lol

Nicely seen Debra, but do be careful! I would have screamed too!

Thanks, Renata, I seem to find more than my fair share of snakes when out bird watching!
