Description
Anhinga Drying After the Rain by Debra Martz It was a cool and wet day with a light rain falling almost constantly. This Anhinga, also know as snake bird, American darter or water turkey, was trying to stay dry as were we humans. However, it could possibly have been drying from a dip under water while stabbing for fish. Unlike other water birds, its feathers are not waterproof. Therefore, after every dip, it strikes a pose on the edges of shallow lakes and ponds, with its wings outstretched to dry its waterlogged feathers.
Scientific name: Anhinga anhinga
A textured overlay has been added to enhance the background.
