Description
Rio Grande Gorge at Wild Rivers Recreation Area
Wild Rivers Recreation Area is a BLM property with hiking, camping sites and a visitor's center. It is a peaceful, remote area that offers miles of hiking along the rim and trails that descend down to the Rio Grande and also the Red River of New Mexico. This photo was taken while hiking the 6 mile upper trail, Rinconada. One of the trails, La Junta, has an elevation change of approximately 800 feet and ends at the convergence of the two rivers which gives the property its name, Wild Rivers. One of my favorite trails is Big Arsenic which after the descent to the river one can find some petroglyphs with a bit of searching.
