Ostica Antica - Baths of Marciana ©Debra Martz The Baths of Marciana was one of many baths in Ostia. It was large and elaborate. Seen here are the remains of the Aspe of the large Frigidarium with a floor of polychrome geometric mosaic, dating in the 4th or 5th century AD.
Ostia was founded around the 4th century BC by King Anco Marzio and became the harbour of Rome, situated at the mouth of the Tiber. Throughout the following centuries, a flourishing trade and business center developed. Following the Barbarian invasions, the decline of Ostia began when the port was abandoned and became covered by silt over time.
The archaelogical excavations undertaken at the beginning of the XIX century have brought the ancient city back to light, a rare witness to 900 years of Roman civilization.

My favorite moments are times spent outdoors. I love bird watching, going on hikes and appreciating nature that is all around us. Therefore, much of my photography involves nature and wildlife. I, also, enjoy traveling and have galleries with images from several states in the USA and a few European countries.
