When visiting Taos, NM I can highly recommend dining at Old Martina's Hall! Food is wonderful as is the atmosphere. And if you are lucky enough to be there when music is scheduled, don't miss the opportunity to listen and dance in the great music hall!
History of the Hall "The Old Martinez Hall, now named Old Martina's Hall, has been lovingly renovated by Martina Gebhardt and renamed in her honor. The enormous vigas spanning the great hall were preserved along with the massive adobe walls. The rich and colorful musical history includes classic acts like Taj Mahal, Abraxas and Ricky Nelson. Many still remember Dennis Hopper's wild parties and the El Padrino bar, owned for generations by the Martinez family.
Ranchos de Taos Plaza and the fortress that surrounded it date back to 1769, when the Spanish Governor required all settlers to live inside the adobe walls to protect against raiding Comanches. The plaza enclosed over two acres in order to hold all the community's livestock in the event of an attack." from http://www.oldmartinashall.com/history.php
