Description
Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Slithering Along by Debra Martz It had been a long day of hiking and bird watching and all I wanted to do was get off those shoes and kick back in my lawnchair and relax. I was doing just that until my husband said, "Checkout our visitor!!" This nice, long rattlesnake was slithering just in front of our picnic table at our campsite in South Llano River State Park of Texas. I, of course, grabbed my camera which was on that table and took a few shots. Then we watched as it headed for the road but then it turned around, came back and went under our travel trailer where it decided it liked the shade. WELL, there was no way I was going to be able to sleep later that night knowing that snake might be able to find a way inside. The park office had already closed, so I walked to where the volunteers were working check-in and told them of the snake. When they came and saw the size, they called for help as venomous snake bites are not what they want to happen in the campground. Two men arrived on a golf cart with a long "snake catcher" and were eventually able to get it close enough to one side of our RV to grab it, place it in a wooden crate and take it off to a more remote area of the park. (This was my 2nd rattlesnake encounter of the day!)

I have another image of just its head and tail when it made the turn to come back. "Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Turning Around"

Yikes! That is a well fed rattlesnake!
Debra Martz replied:
Yes, and not exactly what I was looking for to come slithering through my campsite!

he doesn't seemed to concerned with you, that might mean he has been around people a while, great shot! glad they were able to remove him.
Debra Martz replied:
I don't know if around people that much. So far there had only been two rattlesnake sightings reported to the office of the park for 2018....both by my husband and I. This one and one about 4 days earlier on a hiking trail in the park.
