.........................
It always pays to visit with the locals. We were staying in Sundance, Wyoming and were lucky enough to get some wonderful "off the beaten path" tips from Amanda for sights in and around the Black Hills National Forest and Bear Lodge Mountains. We spent several days on the back roads and Warrens Peak was the first place to see as it was fairly close. We headed west on hwy 14 and just a few miles out of town took a right onto paved forest road 838 and traveled north about 8 miles where the pavement ended and took another right at the "Y" on the steep uphill 1/4 mile gravel road. There is a Forest Service Lookout tower that anyone is allowed to climb. However, I didn't make it all the way to the top....yep...that rain you see coming made me feel just a bit uncomfortable on the metal steps so I only went up 2 flights but the views were great from there!
