Description
This Old House ©Debra Martz When I made my first visit to the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge in northern Oklahoma several years ago, I didn't expect my first stop for photography would be an abandoned house and windmill with nature taking it back. But shortly after turning off hwy 38 onto the gravel road leading into the refuge, this scene captured my attention so I had to stop. I marveled at what a beautiful home this had been in its day and wondered why it was left to deteriorate. Now, I feel the need to stop every time I'm in the area to see if I can capture it differently. This morning was just about an hour after sunrise and still had a lovely glow from the early morning sunshine.

So well captured in the morning light. Truly thought-provoking as to the family who once lived there and why they left.

We have a house like this in our neighborhood. Everyone says it's haunted, but I just think it's lonely.

Great capture! I too wonder about abandoned homes and imagine a happy life there once.
