Description
The Spinning Wilson's Phalarope ©Debra Martz These birds, about the size of a Robin, constantly bob on the surface and under the water, while spinning in circles to bring small food items within reach of their slender bills. Due to their constant movements of bobbing in circles, they are a more challenging bird to photograph, at least for me. This female still has a lot of her breeding plumage. Unlike most other birds, Wilson’s Phalarope females are more colorful than males, with a dark line through the eye extending down the neck. The throat is white and the neck is washed rusty.
Captured this image in May at the Great Salt Plains State Park in Northern Oklahoma.
