Description
Spotted Sandpiper Teetering Along at Estero Llano Grande State Park of Texas by Debra Martz This Spotted Sandpiper was busy foraging for food along the edge of the Dowitcher Pond in the park. While it was foraging, it was constantly nodding and teetering up and down. It is undetermined as to why they do this but even the chicks teeter nearly as soon as they hatch. In addition to recognizing by the teetering motion, they are easily recognized with their bold spots on the white underparts in the spring and summer. Most, if not all of those spots disappear in the winter, yet this one still had a few on this January day in south Texas.
