Description
Spider Rock - Canyon de Chelly by Debra Martz Located in NE Arizona, Canyon de Chelly is a National Monument operated in conjuction with the Navajo Nation. There are two rim drives, the north (hwy 64) with 3 overlooks and the south (hwy 7) with 7 overlooks. Spider Rock is the last overlook and is at the deepest part of the canyon; the canyon walls rise 1000 feet and the spider rock monolith rises over 800 feet. We took a canyon tour with a Navajo the day after driving the rims and walking out to each overlook. Dan, our guide, said it was named after an Hopi Indian woman that lived there and was an excellent weaver and taught the Navajo her weaving skills skills...weavings as beautiful and spectacular as those of a spider.

You're feeding me wanderlust! I wanted to stop there but didn't have time. I need to make time to go back.
