Description
Scoop Of Pelicans and Some Double Crested Cormorants by Debra Martz My day could not have started any better! I had been seeing the number of American White Pelicans increase around a distant island on the lake but on the morning of Oct 1st I drove to the Sandy Beach area and was extremely surprised to see large numbers of the migratory pelicans. This is just a very small portion; the "line" of pelicans as seen here at the continued from the dam all the way to that distant island. Numbers estimated to be above 20,000 of these boreal birds! Also, across the center you can see the dark heads of many Double-crested Cormornats. A once in a lifetime experience...unless I happen to be here at the right time on the right day next year! A group of pelicans has many collective nouns such as a brief, pod, pouch, scoop and squadron of pelicans. Great Salt Plains State Park near Jet, Oklahoma.
