Description
Reddish Egret - Dark Morph by Debra Martz
There is no mistaking this big, beautiful bird with the colorful bill, lores and those blue legs (not all have blue legs...some blue-gray to black)! What I find interesting about this bird is that it is recognized as one species but reddish egrets may be either all white (white morph) or like this one, gray with a reddish or rusty colored head and neck (dark morph), both have pink bills with dark tips.
The Reddish Egret is a coastal bird of Texas, across the Gulf through Louisianna and along the southern Gulf and Atlantic coasts of Florida. It can also be found along the coasts of Mexico down to the northern coasts of South American.
I captured this image on an April day along the shore of the Laguna Madre on the west side of North Padre Island, TX.
