Description
Posing Anhinga by Debra Martz Well, not actually posing as it had been busy preening its backside. I thought I would never get a photo of its head looking forward but finally did! Note the tiny white feather atop its beak from all the preening it had been doing. Adult males are black with silvery to white streaks but the females and immatures, like this one, have a pale tan head, neck, and breast. The bill, legs, and feet are yellowish orange. Captured at Estero Llano Grande State Park in south Texas near the border of Mexico.
