Old West of Utah by Debra Martz Spent a day sight-seeing on some back roads in southwest Utah. The old fencing and rugged land made me think of the Old West days. And seems reasonable since Hollywood used this area for a backdrop for several movies and old westerns for tv. Johnson Canyon Road turns north off of hwy 89 east of Kanab and is paved for approximately 18 miles. At the end you have three choices; turn-around and backtrack, go right on a dirt road into the Escalante, or go left on a dirt road that eventually leads to Hwy 89 north of Mount Carmel Junction.
