Description
Northern Beardless-Tyrannulet by Debra Martz It was January and I was walking the trails at Santa Ana Wildlife in Mission, Texas. It is located right along the Rio Grande which is the border with Mexico. I like bird watching there as some of the Central American birds will cross into Texas here and they won't 200 miles north where I live. So I enjoy the hope and thrill of possibly seeing/hearing something new. And this day I did! This tiny and very fast moving flycatcher is 4-1/2" and has a name bigger than it is!!! Northern Beardless-Tyrannulet!! Of course, I didn't know the name when I saw it and it was a good 2 weeks later before I thought I had it right. There is Facebook group covering Wild Birds around the World; they will give you a yes if you are correct but only more hints if not as the idea of the group is to help you learn to ID your birds on your own. I finally braved it after a few weeks, sent the pic and my ID and got a YES!!
And the scientific name: Camptostoma imberbe
