Like a Frog on a Throne Pilares Canyon New Mexico by Debra Martz TThe sight before me resembled a large, ancient frog perched regally on a throne, gazing down at me. I have a passion for exploring hidden gems off the beaten path, so when I heard about a brochure showcasing lesser-known Arches, I was eager to embark on this adventure. Despite having a full day to wander, we quickly realized that our time was insufficient to fully appreciate all that the area had to offer. Nonetheless, we were able to encounter over half a dozen magnificent arches and take in the breathtaking scenery of the countryside. Although not technically an arch, the unique formation I stumbled upon captivated my interest. This formation was just to the left of the Rooftop arch so it should be easy to find from the handwritten brochure.
To reach 4 arches (and this frog looking formation) in Pilares Canyon you take US 550 north of Aztec toward Durango, Co, make a right on NM 173, travel 10.9 miles and turn left on a dirt road. Drive 0.2 miles, turn left at "T" and continue about 1 mile...watch for arch on your right.
The sky was a plain, solid blue so added digital texture to enhance it.
