Description
Killdeer Profile by Debra Martz It was the end of May and I had been hiking the trails and boardwalks of Charlie's Pasture in Port Aransas, TX for several hours. Finally getting into the heat of the day, I decided it was time to leave. Walking back to the truck in the parking lot, I spotted this Killdeer that had just landed at the edge of the sidewalk. I was able to get a few shots before it sat on the ground and exhibited a broken-wing distraction display....which they do when a nest is threatened. At that point, I walked away knowing there must have been a nest nearby.
