Description
Guernsey State Park Vista by Debra Martz
On a summer road trip, making our way to South Dakota, I stumbled upon some information online about the beautiful Guernsey State Park and the description was reason enough to stop in Guernsey, Wyoming for a few nights. The main attractions listed to see were The Cliff Register, Oregon Trail Ruts and Guernsey State Park. More specifically for the state park were the don't miss items; The Castle, Brimmer Point & the CCC Museum. When we arrived at the state park early one morning, there wasn't anyone manning the entry station so we filled out our information & placed our fee in the provided envelop and grabbed a map to find the 3 must see places. The Castle, our first stop, was actually an impressive multi-level Group Picnic Shelter built by the CCC. From there we made our way on the narrow, steep, winding, hair-raising, one lane road for two way traffic gravel road to Brimmer Point. I was ready to turn around after a while but...that's right...no where to do so!!! And of course, if I had turned around, I would have missed the great views!! We made it to the museum last, and talking with staff member about our drive to Brimmer .... well, she said we were very brave to make that drive!!
