Description
Greater Roadrunner Brief Pause by Debra Martz Get it while you can!! They are called roadrunner for a reason and boy do they run fast. This one took a brief pause...must have been at least 2 seconds...before running on its merry way. Captured this image in January at Falcon State Park in South Texas.
Per audubon.org "The most famous bird in the southwest, featured in folklore and cartoons, known by its long tail and expressive crest. The Roadrunner walks and runs on the ground, flying only when necessary. It can run 15 miles per hour, probably with much faster spurts when chasing a fast-running lizard or other prey."

Great capture of the roadrunner but he is smaller than the ones up my way!!
Debra Martz replied:
Bigger than he appears. He stopped, pulled his neck close to body before stretching back out and running.

Aww... I'm in love! Gorgeous shot with great details of this precious bird. Your beautiful and identified bird image has been featured by Wild Birds Of The World, a nature photography group. L/F

It is a cute one all with feathers fluffed! Thank you for the feature, William!
