Description
Golden-cheeked Warbler by Debra Martz I've looked for this tiny elusive and endangered warbler, which breeds only in a small area in the state of Texas, for a number of years. Finally, here this beauty is. I was in the right area at the right time of year. It breeds in Juniper-Oak woodlands of the Texas Hill Country. I walked many, many miles up and down the trails at South Llano River State Park for 6 days. Heard its song on day one but could never catch sight of it but on the 4th day it made an appearance. I hiked the same area the next two days and was successful seeing two on day 5 but only heard song again on day 6!
(from allaboutbirds.org, "Golden-cheeked Warbler is an Endangered species and is on the 2014 State of the Birds Watch List, which lists bird species that are at risk of becoming threatened or endangered without conservation action. ")
