Description
Cottonwood, a dioecious species, has its pendulous male and female flowers on separate trees. The large male flowers, as in this image, shed abundant amounts of pollen in early spring.
While I think the flowering of the cottonwood is beautiful, I'm not a fan when it releases those cottony masses of seeds. I feel a sneeze coming on just thinking about it!
