Description
Field Sparrow Sitting Pretty by Debra Martz I was enjoying watching a few Field Sparrows in the tree and one feeding on the ground when this one flew up into the tree and fluffed its feathers. I captured this at South Llano River State Park near Junction, Texas.
The range and habitat of the Field Sparrow aka Spizella pusilla spreads from Canada to Mexico. It breeds from Saskatchewan, central Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, southern Ontario and Quebec south to Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, and central Texas. Spends winters south to the Gulf of Mexico and northeastern Mexico. It prefers abandoned fields and pastures overgrown with weeds, scattered bushes, and small saplings and also forages on the ground for seeds from these plants.
