Custer Fell Here by Debra Martz
Scattered across the hillsides of Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument in Montana are memorial markers of those who fell during Custer's Last Stand. 3 days after the battle, hasty burials of the officers and soldiers were made where they fell. A few years later, these graves were opened and the remains of 11 officers and 2 civilians were transferred to eastern cemeteries. Custer's remains were re-interred at West Point and in 1881 the remains of the other soldiers were placed in a mass grave on the ridge now known as Custer's Last Stand Hill. Today these original grave sites are preserved by the marble markers dotting the battlefield.

My favorite moments are times spent outdoors. I love bird watching, going on hikes and appreciating nature that is all around us. Therefore, much of my photography involves nature and wildlife. I, also, enjoy traveling and have galleries with images from several states in the USA and a few European countries. Like it in B&W I didn't realize the site was marked and appreciate your description.

Thank you for the wonderful information in the description. I like that you chose to offer this sober image in black and white. Seems fitting somehow. The faded white of the marker in the tall grass...seems so forgotten.
