Description
Common Yellowthroat at Estero Llano Grande State Park of Texas by Debra Martz There is no doubt how it gets the yellowthroat part of its name and the common comes from the fact that it is common and widespread all across the U.S., north into Canada and south into Central America. For my location in south Texas, it is a migratory and wintering bird; I saw this one in January. Even though it is common doesn't mean it is actually all that easy to get...and I wanted a shot at this little wood warbler...so I departed the wooden boardwalk and walked through the grassy area down to the edge of the marshy pond at Estero. I could hear it calling in the reeds and then it made an open appearance and landed on this old stump in the water. Oh, that white background, did I mention it was a miserably misty and heavy overcast day!! And rain for 3 days prior....so much mud on the bottom of my shoes I was 2 inches taller!! :-)
