Description
Colorful Green Jays Sporting Blue Mohawks - Bentsen Rio Grande State Park of Texas by Debra Martz An early morning arrival to the Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park in Mission Texas started with the treat of a fairly large flock of Green Jays near the entrance station. While I see these birds every time I go bird watching in the Rio Grande Valley area of Texas, their blue crown feathers are usually "slicked back" nice and silky looking. But not this morning...as you can see those crown feathers are standing up nice and tall. It gave me a bit of a laugh as it looked as if they all had mohawks!
These colorful and tropical birds are mainly found in Mexico, down to South America. Not only do they make their way into the Valley of South Texas, over the past decade they have moved even a few more counties north into Texas.
