On a summer road trip, making our way to South Dakota, I stumbled upon some information online about the beautiful Guernsey State Park and the description was reason enough to stop in Guernsey, WY for a few nights. The main attractions listed to see were The Cliff Register, Oregon Trail Ruts and Guernsey State Park. More specifically for the state park were the don't miss items; The Castle, Brimmer Point & the CCC Museum. When we arrived at the state park early one morning, there wasn't anyone manning the entry station so we filled out our information & placed our fee in the provided envelop and grabbed a map to find the 3 must see places. The Castle, our first stop, was actually an impressive multi-level Group Picnic Shelter built by the CCC. From there we made our way on the narrow, steep, hair-raising, one land road for two way traffic gravel road to Brimmer Point. I was ready to turn around after a while but...that's right...no where to do so!!! Once we arrived, the views were gorgeous and after about 15 minutes or so I had stopped shaking and could finally set up the camera! I could have stayed there forever....yep, I didn't want to go down the road that brought us to the top! So with four-wheel drive, we put it in low and crept downhill while honking the horn on those tight curves with limited vision! At our final stop, the CCC Museum, we asked the rangers about her thoughts on Brimmer Point, "I've lived here all my life and I've made it to the point twice and hope to never have to drive up there again!" Something to think about; if this ranger had been at the gate and had I asked about Brimmer Point, I probably would never have made my once in a lifetime adventure to see it!
