Description
Blue Pondhawk by Debra Martz And I thought birds were confusing at times to identify...especially when they merge, split or rename them. I'm discovering the same thing happens in dragonflies, too. At the Odanata Central and the Bug Guide websites, I've discovered that there were once Eastern and Western Pondhawks but back in 2004 were merged into one, the Common Pondhawk. Yet other articles I read, they were still considered separate!! Both the above mentioned websites still have separate pages for them including maps...so I'm totally confused. But then I found a distribution map, and if these have been "unmerged" from Common Pondhawk, then I have an Eastern Pondhawk in this image...and I'm sticking with it :-)

He's a lovely variety - I've seen one with a similar blue body, but not the bright green head! Wonderful capture!

Yes, he is - it took a bit of research for me to find the name of this one...several similar - thank you!
