Black-capped Vireo - Endangered Bird by Debra Martz The most distinctive of vireos with its black cap makes it easy to identify but not so easy to find. It is also the rarest, nesting only in a small area of Texas and an even smaller area within Oklahoma This Vireo flits about actively in heavy oak scrub and for it to come out into the open like this and give me several seconds to capture an image is rare, also. I captured this image during breeding season at South Llano River State Park on May 1, 2018, a "lifer" for me.

"Endangered. Has disappeared from many former haunts, and is declining in many current breeding areas. Heavy cowbird parasitism and loss of habitat are major threats. In some areas, projects are under way to control cowbird numbers and to create more nesting habitat through controlled burning."

UPDATE to Description: I just found a News Release in which the Black-Capped Vireo was delisted from the endangered list April 13, 2018 by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
