Ashen Walls - Pompeii by Debra Martz
My visit to Pompeii was a very sobering experience. Hard to put into words the feelings that capture ones senses.
...........................
The first disaster to hit Pompeii was an earthquake in 62 AD, leaving it a heap of rubble. However, the Pompeians who survived rebuilt and soon restored the city's industrial and commercial activities as it arose from the ruins. While completing and extending temples the 2nd disaster struck when Vesuvius, thought to be extinct, erupted in 79AD. The inferno continued for 3 days and then all was silent. While some areas around rebuilt, Pompeii remained mostly buried 15-20 feet deep for nearly 1800 years. The first ruins properly uncovered were about 1600 years later and it would be another 150 years before it was said that the city had been rediscovered.

My favorite moments are times spent outdoors. I love bird watching, going on hikes and appreciating nature that is all around us. Therefore, much of my photography involves nature and wildlife. I, also, enjoy traveling and have galleries with images from several states in the USA and a few European countries.
