Description
Apishapa Arch On Cordova Pass Road by Debra Martz
The Apishapa Arch was a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) project that was built through an igneous rock dike wall. Cordova Pass Road is a mostly gravel road that was built in 1933-34 and is approximately 35 miles long. It is located in southeastern Colorado and runs between I-25 near Aguilar, passes through the San Isabel National Forest on County Rd 46 and connects with Hwy 12 on the Cuchara Pass. Cordova Pass elevation is 11, 248 feet, therefore, the road is only open seasonally Mid-May or June through early November based on snow and passability. I was fortunate to travel this road in late September with the beautiful colors of autumn.
