Description
A Gnatcatcher and Its Caterpillar by Debra Martz
A January walk along a trail near the edge of the Rio Grande in Salineno, Texas, proved to be a great birding area. The Blue-gray Gnatcatchers were just one of many birds seen actively feeding on each morning's walk. These little ones would hop and sidle through the foliage, foraging for insects.
Though they are called gnatcatchers, gnats do not form a significant part of their diet per allaboutbirds.org ... I think I can agree! While watching this one for a little while, it had not one but two caterpillars!!
