Description
Black-crested Titmouse High on a Limb by Debra Martz I see quite a few of these when I make bird watching trips to south Texas along the border of Mexico but I can't resist photographing them again and again. This little titmouse feeds on insects and seeds so possibly it is glancing back at some "food" that just flew by!
It is a bird of Texas and northeastern Mexico and similar to the Tufted Titmouse. The Black-crested Titmouse hybridizes with the Tufted Titmouse where their ranges overlap in central Texas. They were once considered the same species, however, they are distinct genetically and vocally.
(Scientific name: Baeolophus atricristatus )
